Tributes Flow for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt prepared to post publicly about his personal sorrow.
"Adequate time has elapsed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner created an instant bond. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, remarking that he doesn't recollect "any day without mirth".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob valued immensely. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with the cast, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to block the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate put a restriction on the files to prohibit the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the active case.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a public database citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
After the tragedy, public personalities expressed varying comments.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, offering provocative claims that were widely condemned by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his perspective to the detractors recently. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan described the comments as "disturbing" and suggested they demonstrated a worrisome lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by proposing that an associate could have intervened when the choice to comment on the passing was made.
