The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Comes After Lukewarm Response
The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure informed employees about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling the project with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Strategic Hires
The news echoes a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a clearer identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to consideration and reimagined the title with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of 31st Union. After some time of conversations, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s guidance and background in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having dedicated the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben soon. We are all excited to keep witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
The President
Background of the Incoming Leader
The appointee presently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Details and Concept
The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description explains. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and tests that change every round. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and hope your squad can secure victory? The choice is yours."
The game has not yet received an announced release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can expect further news as creation continues.
