The British tennis star achieved the most important win of his professional journey by rallying from a lost first set to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

While he had earlier defeated Alcaraz on two separate matches, this triumph signifies Norrie's initial victory over a current world top-ranked player.

"Enormous. So big for me," said Norrie, who joins as the latest British man in the record books to beat a top-ranked player. "Returning from a physical setback last year, I lost in the first round of qualies here. I just sought to enjoy my tennis in the closing months of the year. To get a win like this, it's the greatest win of my tennis journey, my first win over the top player and probably the strongest athlete in the tennis scene right now."

Norrie, seeded 31st in the world, also stopped Alcaraz's supreme streak of nine finals in a row and 17 straight Masters 1000 successes, which represented the top run of performances in the young champion's early professional path.

The top seed appeared to be progressing easily to success early on as he eased through the initial stanza. However, the British contender steadily battled back into the match by executing with greater precision and engaging the Spanish opponent into lengthy, grueling points.
