Former Cincinnati Bengals and University of Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Badly Burned in Farm Accident
Former Texas star and NFL receiver Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after suffering serious burns in an incident on his ranch near his Texas hometown.
Details of the Accident
According to a family statement, Shipley was operating a machine when it ignited. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was not before he sustained severe burns over a significant portion of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who transported him to a nearby medical facility. Subsequently, he was airlifted to a hospital in Austin, where he is in serious but stable condition.
“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and no infections or other issues on his journey back to health,” wrote his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on social media.
Severity of the Injuries
It has been reported that Shipley suffered third-degree burns to more than 20% of his body. His brother noted that the main danger at this stage is the threat of infection and pneumonia.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley earned Associated Press All-America honors with the Longhorns in 2009. During his college career, he amassed 248 career catches for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.
Drafted in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, he played for multiple NFL teams over his professional career. He officially retired in 2014.
