Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
