Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
